53 Things I'm Grateful For - A Birthday Tradition

Here is my 53rd birthday list of things I'm grateful for.  I try to think of things that are specific to this past year, but there's definitely some repeats from past years.  Thanks for letting me share it with you!

1. Our gas fireplace

2. Evergreen trees

3. Our king size bed – after 25 years of marriage we upgraded to a king from the queen that we’ve had since we first got married (we had replaced the mattress a couple times, so it’s just the bed frame that’s 25 years old).  It is amazing!

4. My Hoka recovery sandals

5. Our most recent trip to Disney where we fulfilled a bucket list dream of mine of staying on property at the Polynesian Resort.  Honestly, it was magical.

6. My mom’s health – 2024 was a rough year for her, but she’s doing much better.

7. Our trip to Mexico with my mom and siblings

8. Having my kids home for Christmas

9. Our treadmill

10. My husband and kids

11. Cousins – I have lots of pretty awesome ones.

12. Java Soks – they keep my cold drinks cold longer.

13. Free speech

14. Friends

15. Euchre – friendships are built and forged around the euchre table.  😊

16. Our home – moving every couple of years and being essentially homeless for weeks at a time makes me really appreciate being in a home with our stuff.

17. Photos

18. Disney races – our love of Disney races keeps us motivated to exercise.

19. Hair – now that my hair is starting to thin, I realize that I haven’t appreciated my hair enough.

20. Dole Whip – IYKYK

21. Crock pot liners

22. Parchment paper

23. Modern communication – texting, Marco Polo, Facebook, etc.  I love how easy it is to keep in touch.

24. Handel’s Messiah

25. Plastic straws – paper straws are gross.

26. Styrofoam cups

27. Reusable shopping bags – lest numbers 25 and 26 make you think that I have complete disregard for the environment, reusable shopping bags I can get behind.

28. Car seat heater – I don’t leave it on for long, but I still appreciate it.

29. Car seat air conditioning – I don’t have it in my car, but knowing that it’s a thing that I could have in the future makes me happy.

30. Remote key fob for my car – I love that I don’t have to dig around in my purse for my keys – just touch my car handle and it unlocks!  Genius!

31. LDS temples – especially that I live relatively close to one for a change.

32. Unshaken Saints podcast

33. Maverick – our go to gas station for drinks in Spokane.  They’ve got flavored syrups for our drinks and they have pretty legit donuts.

34. Grace – the grace that the Lord gives, but also the grace we give one another and ourselves.

35. Readers – My eyes are basically worthless without them.

36. Lamps – we’ve recently acquired two new lamps.  I love how they look, but mostly I’m grateful for the additional light to help me see.

37. Lip balm

38. Our dog, Colt – how can I not appreciate a soul who adores me so unconditionally?

39. Face cleaning wipes – because I’m too lazy at bedtime to properly wash my face.

40. Leggings – you can dress them up or you can dress them down, but they’re always comfy.

41. My new over the ear headphones – I’ve always struggled with ear buds.  They fall out of and hurt my ears, and they give me a headache.  Jeremy found some over-the-ear headphones that work so much better for me!

42. Our Valentine playlist – as part of our Valentine date in 2024 we created a playlist of our favorite romantic songs.  Ours currently has 39 songs and it’s one of my favorite playlists.

43. Live music – we’ve gotten to go to several concerts this past year ranging from Def Leppard to Beethoven’s Ninth.

44. Plants – My green thumb is improving, and I love having plants around.

45. Reels – I try to not let them suck up too much of my time, but they make me laugh.

46. Artistry – I find such great beauty in art, music, books, architecture, etc.  I’m so grateful for all the beautiful things in our world.

47. Pedicures

48. Laughter

49. Dog groomers – I love that I can drop off a dirty, stinky, mangey dog and return 4 hours later to an adorable, clean, good smelling dog.

50. Naproxen

51. Documentaries

52. Stuffed animals – we have far too many stuffies in our house for two grown adults, but they bring us joy.

53. Polish pottery – I have a small collection of Polish pottery that I started when we lived in Europe.  They are beautiful and useful pieces that I love to pull out of the cabinet.
